Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Thoughts

Last Sunday (9th of March), I got Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I got it from St. Vital Centre EB Games in Winnipeg. EB Games in Winnipeg did not have a midnight release. So, I went there Sunday at 12:30 PM. To my surprise there was a long line (about 75 people in front of me). It took me about 40 minutes to get the game.

I went home right away. Popped it in the Wii. There was an update on the game, so I updated. The first thing I did was play a Brawl match with Mario. I'm gonna stop mentioning every little detail right now, cause I don't have the energy and brain power to type it up.

It took me a while to get used to the controls of the game. Actually I'm still not used to the controls. It's kinda hard to get the Smash Attacks with the Wii-remote unlike the GameCube controller where you just use the C-Stick for smashes. And I don't have a GC controller. I've searched on eBay, but couldn't find anything in Canada. I'm probably just going to get used to the Wii-remote controls.

After I played a few matches. I realized why this game is so great. Its so deep. Now, I'm not going to talk about advanced techniques or anything like that, because I have no idea about those stuff. I've never played Smash Bros. before, and not even any fighting game. I'm gonna talk about in first time player point of view.

What fascinated me the most is the amount of options you have. You have lots of stuff to choose from, but the game's main attraction is the Brawl match option. Each character has so many moves:

- A-button Attacks: you have 4 options with these attacks (Up-tilt, Down-tilt, Side-tilt, Neutral-tilt).
- A-button Smashes: you have 3 options (Up-smash, Down-smash, Side-smash).
- A-button Attacks in the air (Aerials): you have 5 options (Up-aerial, Down-aerial, Forward-aerial, Backward-aerial, Neutral-aerial).
- B-button Specials: you have 4 options (Up-special, Down-special, Side-special, Neutral-special).
- Grabs: you have 5 options (Pummel, Up-throw, Down-throw, Forward-throw, Backward-throw)
- Final Smash

And each of these moves differ from one character to another, and rack up different damages.

I'm having so much fun just playing with the CPU, and I can't wait to try to play with an actual person sitting next to me. I have yet to play an online match that didn't lag. So, I couldn't really enjoy online that much.

My most chosen character at the moment is Meta Knight. I'm just very comfortable with him. I haven't unlocked all the characters yet, I have just unlocked Lucario today.

Final thoughts: if you have a Wii go get the game now, and if you didn't like it at first. give it sometime, Play a few matches, and get to learn the characters.

I think I'll do a follow up post on this topic next month.

P.S. Comment...
